Are you aware of how your commission scheme compares to others in Dubai? I got a call from a candidate the other day asking for a market comparison of commission schemes in Dubai as he wasn't sure how his matched up to other agencies in the region The answer?? It didn't match nowhere near what it should be for someone of his expertise and billings and he would NOT have known that if he hadn't have called me and asked 🤷‍♀️ A lot of recruiters are quite sheltered when they join an agency, especially newer recruiters. Most are not aware that they could be making so much more just because of the commission structure. The difference between 10-20% is huge when it comes to what you take home in your pocket and a GOOD agency will not want to do a top biller out of money, they will give you what your hard work is actually worth 😇 If you are a strong biller in agency and want to know how your comms scheme matches up to see if you really are getting the best out of your career then give me a bell please 📞

Recently, I’ve met with recruiters from different competitors, and it seems many firms have raised their commission thresholds to 7M JPY, with additional team-based targets that must be hit before any individual can earn commission. In one case, a recruiter billed around 15M JPY last quarter and walked away with nothing. Personally, I think this is absurd! What’s the point of working in sales under these conditions? You either go the discretionary route, where you're essentially earning around 10% of the total revenue generated (like at Page or Walters), which isn’t great but at least comes with the backing of a large brand, including access to a database, training, marketing, and other support. Or, you join a firm that actually pays you based on your individual billing. I’ve seen a variety of commission structures throughout my career, and I have strong opinions about things like candidate and account ownership, thresholds, draws, discretionary vs. transparent systems, and whether a flat or incremental percentage is better based on billing. But this combination of a high threshold, a team target, and a low base salary seems like one of the worst setups I’ve come across. If you’re billing 15M JPY, at the very least, you should be taking home 1M JPY, no matter what the structure looks like!

How will AI affect the way in which recruitment services are delivered to clients in the US? I've been thinking about this question on my run this morning after listening to Steven Bartlett's recent pod with Raoul Pal. Two of my takeaways that they discussed were: 1.) How AI can enhance our life/careers 2.) What we'll seek as a result of having a lot of AI related tasks done for us in our life/careers On the second point, predictions have been made that industries that have a physical element to them (travelling tours/live entertainment, for example) are likely to boom in the future as people will seek to get away from their screens and experience things in real life, which makes total sense. It'll almost become a craving. I thought about how this applies to recruitment and the noise that is out there at the moment with automated emails, automated job applications, automated screening etc etc. Two big and fundamental methods that the recruitment market could continue benefit from in the future and which I believe should NOT change are: Phone calls - its now easier to hide behind emails more than ever. Phone calls are a fundamental way to build relationships, hear human tonality, find solutions, be reactive, short, long and can be made from pretty much anywhere. The recruitment industry should never lose this as so much is achieved by this method. Physical meetings - after being sat on virtual video calls every day, as a candidate, a manager, 8-12 hours a day.. why would you want to have a service which yet another delivery method is virtual? Lets meet for that coffee, lunch, dinner or at an event. Don't let the machine suck out your ability to build non-transactional relationships. As Vivid grows in the US we are going to continue to push these methods and communicate the benefits to our clients. Some with prefer to email and meet virtually and we will never turn down business via that method. However, we will continue to make lots of cold calls and ask for physical meetings because its going to be more important than ever with the rapid pace in which the world and professions are changing. #thursdaythoughts #AI #Recruitment

In Q2 of this year in the UK the average Perm Consultant made 4 placements and the average Temp Consultant made 6 placements. (UK) When we looked at the consultants at the Top 5 agencies on Recruiter Insider for Candidate Experience, we discovered that: 🚀 the average Perm Consultant there made 5 placements 🚀 the average Temp Consultant made 10 placements. In Q2 alone, the agencies with the highest candidate experience scores made 1 extra Perm placement per consultant and an 4 extra temp placements per consultant. Highlighting as always the impact candidate experience has on your placement numbers. The data doesn’t lie, an improved candidate experience means more placements. One of the big differences between the UK market and the UAE market is the take on remote working. Having focused on recruiting in the UAE market more in the last year, and being based here myself, I find the demand from candidates for remote options coming up much less frequently. Of course, there is always a demand for flexibility but in comparison to the UK there is a much different take on this topic in the UAE. Having placed contractors and permanent candidates across the UK, one of the most important factors to consider is what the candidate expects from their hybrid/remote working model, and what is a 'deal breaker' for them. So why is there such a demand in the UK for remote working vs the UAE? Childcare costs🧸 🇬🇧 The UK has extremely high childcare costs with nursery fees through the roof 🇦🇪 The UAE has more affordable childcare costs and options for parents Commuting🚆 🇬🇧 The cost of living has resulted in people moving further out of the cities, whether that be London, Cardiff or Manchester. Resulting in a longer commute time, and a public transport system that has increased in cost. Who wants to add 2 hours onto their working day, just to get to work? 🇦🇪 If you're living in Dubai and working in Dubai, travel time door to door on average is no longer than 20-60 minutes for most people. Dubai to Abu Dhabi can take as little time as 45 minutes. The metro is an option as cheap as 8AED per day. Weather☀️ 🇬🇧 Leaving the house when it is dark and returning when it is dark isn't ideal. Recent NQ salary data reveals a clear pay hierarchy in London’s legal market. Outside the Magic Circle, Macfarlanes offers the highest salary at £140k, compared to the Magic Circle’s standard of £150k. However, a significant gap remains as US firms like Gibson Dunn, Quinn Emanuel, and Paul Weiss lead with £180k for NQs. 2 tips to increase how often you get approached for relevant roles on LinkedIn ⬇: ✅ Add as many keywords to your profile as possible, you would be surprised how many Payments sales professionals don't have Payments on their LinkedIn profile and it can be causing you to lose out on loads of amazing opportunities. Recruiters use specific keywords to search for the most relevant candidates for a role, some jobs will be industry specific or will require someone who has sold in to a specific vertical so get them on your profile!! ✅ Know what role you want to be approached for and mirror your LinkedIn to be similar. I'm not saying lie about your experience but you can highlight key points which are more relevant to your desired role. These things not only make my life easier when head-hunting but will make sure you are getting approached for more desirable positions. Salt

Why would you want to live & work in the UAE? Well… The time when companies would offer huge salaries to incentivise expats to get over here has gone, You wont be offered a x2 on your US/UK/EU salary to lure you over, there’s already MORE than enough draw you in… Call me bias, but: 1: overall quality of life boost 2: take home 100% salary, no tax 3: viable long term residency system 4: near guaranteed physical + financial safety 5: a-tier schooling, hospitals, and health facilities 6: everyone’s here to do well - there’s no nonsense 7: opportunity to completely transform your career 8: work with innovative status-quo challengers 9: convenience to a whole new level 10: no shortage of the sun (and a long list of other up sides!) Remember, your job search should take 2-4 weeks. Ps, hit like if you’re looking for a role in the UAE ✅
