Digital Transformation: The UAE is seeing a rapid shift towards Digital Out-of-Home (DOOH) advertising. Although digital formats currently account for about 11% of the total OOH spend, this number is expected to rise sharply as more advanced digital billboards and interactive displays are implemented. The adoption of 3D billboards and other immersive technologies, particularly in Dubai, is setting the UAE apart as a leader in this space. Experiential OOH Campaigns: There is a strong emphasis on creating interactive and experiential campaigns that engage audiences in unique ways. Dubai has been at the forefront, with campaigns like Adidas' “liquid billboard” and McDonald’s interactive “Swings” installation, which have set new benchmarks for OOH creativity. These campaigns not only capture attention but also encourage active participation from the audience, making the message more memorable. Sustainability: The push towards sustainability is becoming more prominent in OOH advertising. Brands are increasingly focusing on environmentally friendly campaigns, and media owners are adopting sustainable practices in their operations. The digital landscape in Dubai is evolving rapidly, and with it, the way we communicate brand stories. People often ask me if traditional PR practices are ‘dead’ or ‘on their way out’ – and while I don’t see the print media and physical press kits making an official exit anytime soon, the reality is that these methods are no longer the only reliable way to practice public relations. In fact, they shouldn’t be. Digital PR is not just an option anymore, it’s a necessity. It’s the bridge that connects brands with their audiences in the most direct and engaging way possible. In a vibrant region like the UAE – especially Dubai where every brand is vying for attention – digital PR is becoming an essential tool to cut through the noise and establish a clear and compelling brand voice. Another important perk of digitalising public relations is immediacy. Brands need to be able to respond instantly to market changes, news, and consumer behaviour. Digital platforms provide the agility to do just that. Then there’s also the convenience of tracking ROI and audience insights almost instantly – two important factors that measure the impact of PR efforts and point towards the right direction. And because public relations are about nurturing connections through consistent contact, the digital world has opened a door to constant communication – a tool that was nonexistent just a few years ago, when the sole point of contact was a press release and the odd follow-up via email. But perhaps the most significant aspect of digital PR is its ability to humanise brands. In a digital age, consumers crave authenticity and engagement. Through storytelling and content creation, digital PR can create a narrative that resonates with audiences on a personal level. A recent report by Enum Digital highlighted trust and transparency as one of the key trends shaping the digital world in 2024. Consumers are more likely to engage with brands that have a strong online presence and share values that align with their own. This trend is a clear example of the importance of digital PR in building brand loyalty. While there’s no perfect recipe for PR, digital practices are definitely a part of the mix. In every industry and field, strong connections are based on what people think of a brand – and in this day in age, that image is mostly formed through digital public relations.

Here's the MENA tech news you missed last week 👇 💸 Q3 Startup funding review 🌍 Q3 2024 saw a remarkable $696M in investments across 130 deals in MENA startups, nearly quadrupling the funding value of Q3 2023 and doubling the number of deals. The investment value is almost evenly distributed between the UAE (33.6%), Saudi Arabia (30.3%), and Egypt (28.2%), which is notable given Egypt's ongoing economic challenges. 🤝 Acquisitions 🛒 Saudi Arabia-based grocery delivery startup Nana | نعناع has acquired the رصيد | Rasseed application for an undisclosed amount. Founded in 2016, Nana focuses on fulfilling household grocery needs, while Rasseed, also founded in 2016, provides software solutions for purchasing branded and local gift cards. This acquisition aligns with Nana’s expansion plans to digitise the grocery shopping experience and add a "digital cards" category to its app, enhancing user convenience. 🤖 AI 💸 Meta’s intelligent assistant, Meta AI, will soon support Arabic and be available in 10 Arab countries, including Algeria, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE, as part of a global rollout across 21 new markets. Launched in 2023 to rival ChatGPT and other AI assistants, Meta AI is capable of complex reasoning, visualizing ideas, and solving nuanced problems. 🇸🇦 Ministry of Commerce - Saudi Arabia has reported a 49% growth in commercial records related to AI technologies by the end of Q3 2024. The total number of commercial records in AI reached 10,183 during this period, up from 6,832 in the same quarter of 2023. Riyadh led with the most AI-related commercial records (6,316). Saudi has also achieved 14th place globally and first in the Arab world in the Global Artificial Intelligence Index, recognised for its leading government AI strategy. ⚙️ Tech round-up 🪙 The UAE has introduced amendments to its VAT regulations, exempting transfers and conversions of digital assets, including cryptocurrency. On Oct. 2, the Federal Tax Authority (FTA) released these amendments, which apply retroactively from Jan. 1, 2018. 🇪🇬 Google will start paying content creators in Egypt in local currency (EGP) from May 2025, shifting from its current practice of paying in USD. After my first week at UaeStories.com, I’ve already won a deep appreciation for the media industry and the power of storytelling. As a Sales Intern, I’m continuously honing my verbal exchange talents, mainly in accomplishing out to capability customers and understanding their needs. I’m additionally improving my ability to generate leads via platforms like Instagram and LinkedIn, which has already extended my expert network.
