How Can Volunteers and AI Collaborate to Rebuild Lebanon: A Journey of Resilience and Renewal? Rebuilding Lebanon: Volunteers and AI in Action Lebanon, a nation resilient in the face of adversity, confronted yet another challenge with the devastating Beirut explosion of August 2020. This catastrophe emphasized the urgency for rebuilding efforts, a task shouldered by NGOs and volunteers amid ongoing socio-economic crises. In this journey, their collaboration symbolizes hope and solidarity for communities in distress. In the aftermath of the Beirut explosion, NGOs and volunteers swiftly mobilized, becoming the frontline responders delivering vital aid such as food, shelter, and medical assistance. Their coordinated efforts, fueled by solidarity and empathy, helped save lives and alleviate immediate suffering. Yet, the journey towards rebuilding Lebanon continues. Volunteers remain pivotal in ongoing recovery efforts, working tirelessly to rebuild communities and restore hope. Their resilience and determination serve as beacons of unity and solidarity among the Lebanese people. Augmenting the dedication of volunteers is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI), offering avenues for enhancing volunteerism. AI-powered tools streamline volunteer management, optimize resource allocation, and enhance communication among stakeholders. From data-driven volunteer matching to predictive analytics, AI augments the impact of volunteerism, better serving communities in crisis. As Lebanon seeks sustainable and inclusive development, NGOs and volunteers address root causes of vulnerability and inequality. Investing in education, healthcare, job creation, and community empowerment lays the groundwork for a resilient future. Rebuilding Lebanon is a collective endeavor, necessitating collaboration among all stakeholders. Interviewed (in Arabic) by Masdar Diplomacy after the Brussels 8 conference on Syria: · The United Nations & European Union still refuse to discuss programs allowing the return of Syrian refugees to Syria · They acknowledge the decline of military confrontations, but cite the human rights situation, poverty and the lack of services inside Syria. · Human rights violations exist in many countries, but their citizens are not treated as refugees, prima facie and collectively · Those who flee poverty, lack of services and job opportunities, are economic migrants, not refugees, and fall under a different legal framework. · The integration of Syrians in Lebanon is practically impossible as it leads to demographic imbalance and is against the constitution · The Syrian regime will continue to obstruct the return of refugees because it is desperate to return to the international arena, attract funding and have sanctions lifted. · The only solution is to reconsider the prima facie refugee status and grant it only to those who deserve it, facilitate voluntary return, and regulate the presence of the rest of the Syrians in Lebanon according to applicable residency laws while committing not to forcibly return Syrians who are at risk of arrest and torture. · The Europeans are required to get rid of the generic assessments that every Syrian is considered a refugee and that all of Syria is unsafe to return. · The Lebanese state has to acknowledge its role and responsibility in finding solutions instead of placing responsibilities on the international community · They need to start by distinguishing between refugees or economic migrants (i.e. workers), to curb down hate speech and, most importantly, to regulate the labor market. · Some sectors need Syrian workers who should be incentivized to return their families to Syria https://rb.gy/is7xqx Lara Saade DIANA MENHEM @KullunaIrada Ali MOURAD

🎙️ What defines a true leader in today’s complex world?   Over the years, I’ve come to believe that a leader’s true mark isn’t in personal achievements but in the positive impact we leave on others. Leadership is about building a legacy by empowering others, fostering a culture of growth, and equipping team members with the resources they need to succeed.   On The CEO Diaries with Nadine Samra, I explored the qualities that define lasting leadership. Leading across diverse cultures requires adapting different management styles, but leaders must stay grounded in core principles: integrity, empathy & respect, and accountability.   We discussed the importance of emotional stability, the ability to accept mistakes—both our own and those of others—and a commitment to development. True leaders understand that while our approach may adapt to meet challenges, our values must remain non-negotiable. We should believe there’s a growth path for every team member in one way or another.   This conversation was close to my heart, and I hope it resonates with those who see leadership as a commitment to fostering the success of others.
