The UAE remains the world’s fifth-largest in terms of gold jewellery demand despite falling consumption level in the past 12 months as the yellow metal’s rise to all-time highs above $2,400 an ounce this year continues to captivate global markets. With an annual gold jewellery demand of nearly 40 tonnes, the UAE shares the rank with Russia, followed by Saudi Arabia in the 7th position, a research conducted by a team at The Gold Bullion Company reveals. In 2023, total consumption of gold in the UAE reached 39.7 tonnes, down from the 46.9 tonnes recorded in 2022, according to the World Gold Council. “The drop in the UAE was mainly due to the high base of 2022, which had been boosted by the post-Covid return of tourism,” WGC said. Dubai Islamic Bank the biggest #Sharia-compliant #lender in the UAE, is open to acquisition opportunities in its home base and the #markets it operates beyond the #Arab world’s second-largest economy as it looks to increase its market share. #DIB open to #acquiring other #banks and #FinTech businesses. The lender is pushing to consolidate presence in all its markets by continue doing what you're doing organically and if there's an inorganic opportunity In September last year, DIB took a 20 per cent stake in #Turkey's Tom group of Companies which marked the Islamic lender’s entry into the country’s banking sector and later availed the option of increasing its holding to 25 per cent. The bank, which reported a 13 per cent increase annually in its group net profit to Dh5.45 billion for the nine months to the end of September, recorded a 7 per cent annual rise in the net financing and sukuk investments to Dh286 billion.
