Saudi Arabia Halts Major Projects, What Does the Minister of Finance Say? This is how the Western media reports it, or perhaps how they wish to portray it; I am not sure.🫣 🔆 In his interview on Podcast Thmanyah | ثمانية on March 5, 2024, the Saudi Minister of Finance clarified that a comprehensive study was conducted to determine the needs of various projects and strategies. He explained that ▪️some projects would be accelerated, ▪️others would have their implementation periods extended, ▪️and the commencement of some new projects would be postponed. He emphasized that there are strategies that can be achieved through policies rather than financial expenditure, aiming to balance economic growth with the ability to execute projects efficiently. 🔻It is important to note that this interview was conducted before any circulating rumors, indicating that the minister's statements were not reactions or justifications but part of a pre-planned strategy. 🔆 My Opinion as a Businessman: ⁉️ #SaudiArabia has won the bid to host Expo Riyadh 2030, which means it will host 40 to 60 million international #visitors over six months. Should I reschedule my #projects to accelerate the completion of projects in #Riyadh and extend the timelines for others? The answer is clear. To maximize my financial, political, and social returns, I must seize this unique opportunity. ⁉️ If Saudi Arabia wins the bid to host the #WorldCup2034, should I accelerate my sports projects, initially scheduled to be completed by 2040, and finish them by 2023 to gain the most benefit from the event? Should I look for projects that can have their timelines extended? Dividends = Free Airfare. Okay, that isn't exactly the case but I sure can imagine a couple of influencers framing it as such following Etihad Airway's announcement to explore a potential share sale. Gulf airlines going public (or as much as considering) does not surprise me. After all, I have been discussing this in my inner circle for the past 5+ years - it was only a matter of timing and you can bet the time is now. Gulf visionaries and their reforms are reshaping the region, attracting more footfall than ever before and guess what.. tourists need airports to go through and planes to get there.. business is booming. Moreso, competition is rising and room for collaboration through GCC crossborder travel equally so - that means the world will never be the same for Gulf carriers especially as their international counterparts struggle on many fronts (dare I say M&A activity will pick up across the sector?). Ah the day is here and I am truly excited for airlines and their adjacents and you can bet I will make my way to the heart of it. “So many colors!” My son has developed an obsession with the colorful Dubai taxis and well it became part of our daily school drop-off routine, chasing blue, green, yellow rooftops around town; yet for me, it has me thinking beyond our daily entertainment. Dubai Taxi Corporation's (DTC) listing is becoming a fun pastime for me, one where I am doing complex mathematics (okay, I am not BUT I could be) attempting to forecast fleet growth in response to Dubai’s growing population. The emirate’s population is set to grow to approximately 6 million by 2040 from today’s 3.7 million, and I am team “Red” (I've got the car to prove it) – More taxis, likely including the iconic red ones, will be needed to serve this expanding population. DTC is expanding to meet that demand with their fleet having exceeded 7,400 cars as of Q1 2024 (I’ve been counting); and with that, my focus is broadening from red rooftops to returns and dividends. Despite the growth of the video on demand market, traditional TV viewership is seeing a slow but steady growth worldwide.    However, this doesn’t seem to be the case in the UAE.   TV viewing has declined among UAE residents, according to YouGov’s latest media report.   A higher proportion of UAE residents (70%) spent less than 10 hours per week on live TV viewership in 2023 compared to 2021 (54%).   Aside from this, video on demand (VOD) platforms have experienced increased usage in the last two years, with Amazon Prime and YouTube having had the largest uplift.   The report found that Gen Z were the most likely to use on demand services, with YouTube dominating Gen Z’s top choice for on-demand TV.
