🌱📚 Abu Dhabi is redefining the educational landscape with its recent inauguration of three state-of-the-art schools in Zayed City, developed through a pioneering Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. This initiative, led by the Abu Dhabi Investment Office (ADIO) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Education and Knowledge (ADEK), in collaboration with a consortium including the Plenary Group and BESIX Group, marks a significant milestone for the UAE's education sector. The historical background of Sharjah Rock Art highlights its exceptional continuity, complexity, and unique figures, unlike other regional rock art. The use of detached boulders from local outcrops sets Sharjah's art apart, serving as a valuable archive that offers insights into the region's past societies, traditions, and beliefs. Chronologically, Sharjah's rock art spans: 1. 5th Millennium BCE: Depictions of Syrian wild asses and wild goats. 2.4th Millennium BCE: Wild goats in a distinctive "three-strokes style." 3 3rd Millennium BCE: T-shaped figures, likely representing daggers. 4. Late 2nd Millennium BCE to Modern Times: Camels, horses, boats, and inscriptions in ancient scripts like South Arabian. This timeline showcases the artistic and cultural evolution of the region across millennia. Thr photo below is for a contact tracing developed by Prof. Angelo Fossati for a boulder engraved at the Al-Modaify site illustrates the first three phases of Sharjah rock art in sequence. 1st phase: A group of wild asses is overlapped by figures from later phases. 2nd phase: Two human figures and a three-strokes style ibex overlay the earlier animals. 3rd phase: A T-shaped figure and schematic human cover both previous phases, revealing the chronology of artistic evolution. The UAE secured the second place after the United States in greenfield FDI project announcements in 2023, with an impressive 1,323 projects - a 33% increase compared to 2022. Additionally, our nation attracted a remarkable US$ 30.688 billion in FDI inflows in 2023, showcasing a year-on-year growth of 35%. This is a testament to the UAE's ever-growing appeal as a global investment hub. Our FDI outflow stock also saw significant growth, reaching US$ 262.208 billion in 2023, up from US$ 239.880 billion in 2022. For almost 20 years, the IMF’s Middle East Regional Technical Assistance Center (METAC) has been assisting its member countries in advancing public policies and building stronger macroeconomic institutions for long-term development and inclusive growth. METAC’s Steering Committee met on June 6, 2024, in Cairo, Egypt, to review the Center’s capacity development (CD) activities for the past fiscal year and discuss the workplan for the period ahead. The event brought together representatives from the IMF, member countries, and development partners (Switzerland, Germany, the Netherlands, France, and the European Union). METAC delivered on its commitment to substantially expand CD services to its member countries, despite a challenging regional environment marked by fragility and conflict. Total CD delivery increased by 30 percent compared to the previous year, while CD to fragile member states rose by 40 percent. METAC added three new workstreams (tax policy, government finance statistics, and macroeconomic frameworks) to its existing portfolio (public financial management, revenue administration, central bank operations, financial supervision and regulation, and real sector statistics). It also established two new cross-cutting work programs on climate and gender and bolstered its team of experts with three regional advisors dedicated to assisting fragile and conflict-affected states with their specific institutional challenges and capacity building needs. In the coming year, METAC will further increase its CD delivery to member countries introduce two new workstreams on public debt management and governance & anti-corruption. Member country and development partner representatives commended METAC for its role in building stronger macroeconomic institutions and policies: - Vice Minister of Finance of Egypt Ahmed Kouchouk highlighted METAC’s role in supporting fiscal reforms. - George Maarrawi, Director General of the Ministry of Finance of Lebanon, appreciated METAC’s unwavering support during Lebanon’s economic and political crisis. - Rana Badawi, Sub-Governor at the Central Bank of Egypt, recognized METAC’s contributions to developing consolidated supervision and bank corporate governance regulations. - Valerie Liechti, Head of Cooperation at the Swiss Embassy in Egypt stressed Switzerland’s productive CD collaboration with IMF and METAC. In addition, Deputy Director of the IMF Middle East and Central Asia Department Zeine Zeidane highlighted METAC’s role in supporting its member countries during challenging times, and METAC Director Holger Floerkemeier thanked development partners for their longstanding support and collaboration, and member countries for their strong ownership of the Center. SAUDI ARABIA ESTABLISHES RIYADH NON-PROFIT FOUNDATION TO ADVANCE SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT AND INNOVATION Saudi Arabia has officially announced the establishment of the Riyadh Non-profit Foundation, along with the appointment of its board of directors. The decision to form the board was taken by the Board of Directors of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City. The primary objectives of the foundation are to promote institutional and social work, advance research and studies, and foster greater community participation in non-profit sector initiatives. Additionally, the foundation aims to cultivate a deeper understanding of social work and reinforce its underlying values. His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, who serves as the Chairman of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, will chair the board of the newly established foundation. Engineer Ibrahim Al-Sultan, CEO of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, has been appointed Vice President and Secretary General. The launch of the foundation was described as "a pioneering initiative aimed at promoting social development and fostering innovation within the non-profit sector." The foundation will focus on empowering all segments of society, enhancing social cohesion, and preserving the cultural identity of Riyadh. It seeks to collaborate with government institutions and non-profit organizations to expand employment opportunities in the social sector. The foundation further aspires to become a leading regional and global entity in financing, designing, and implementing innovative social programs. It will provide support to key sectors, including healthcare, education, arts, culture, and environmental sustainability, thereby contributing to an enhanced quality of life and the broader social development of the Kingdom. Additional objectives include the establishment of research centers and incubators for social projects, increasing community involvement, and effectively managing affiliated entities.
