Global Telecom Leaders Join Forces to Redefine Industry Network APIs A new company is being formed by some of the world's largest telecom operators to combine and sell network APIs on a global scale. Ericsson and its wholly owned subsidiary Vonage will have 51% of the new entity. The aim is to simplify the process for businesses and developers to access and use network services. The new company includes a wide number of telecommunications companies throughout the world: 🔘 AT&T 🔘 Telstra 🔘 América Móvil 🔘 Reliance Jio 🔘 Orange 🔘 Telefonicaónica 🔘 Vodafone The 5G API supergroup of companies will develop and sell a range of standardised network APIs that will be accessible to businesses and developers around the world. This will make it easier for developers and businesses used to an API infrastructure on the web and in computer industry, to access and use network services, regardless of their location or the network operator they are using. The 5G API supergroup has the potential to make it easier for businesses and developers to access and use network services, which could lead to a wave of innovation in the telecom sector The group will also work to promote the adoption of network APIs by businesses and developers. This should help to drive innovation and create new opportunities for businesses and developers to use network services. This follows on from the CAMARA and Open Gateway initiatives that have been launched in the recent past and backed heavily by industry bodies such as the GSMA. The goal is simple enough. The developer community have long shunned significant independent development directly for mobile networks put off by the lack of standards and fragmentation of deployment with operators. They have chosen instead to work on applications for much more lucrative mobile and computer OS applications where the scale is global and the rewards far greater. The quest of the operators is to build as attractive a platform on their mobile networks, the much-heralded “mobile as a platform” so loved of CEOs across the world. This has been brought into sharp focus with the emergence of 5G and the increasing adoption of large-scale partnerships in cloud, IOT, security and AI, all largely computing assets. The consensus is that to extract maximum value from 5G there needs to be a consistent platform for developers to exploit at global not national scale. These initiatives are being put in place to deliver just that and offer a platform that will be as lucrative as computers and phones. In turn the operators are looking for the developers to build systems, applications and services on a network that could be equally at home in South America or Asia. This will take time, it’s not easy and the developers can be fickle but if the operators can get it right, there is no doubt the rewards will be enormous. #5g #ai #api #telecoms

There is no more money to be made from voice but voice is an essential service that must be provided, and the retirement of networks forces bigger spending on new IMS capacity as voice is migrated. If there is ever a space to learn about the benefits of a cloud-native approach, in a constrained context, with immediate financial benefits, then IMS expansion is a good place to look and learn, and ng-voice is a good company to learn with since they are proven and have done before. eSIM revolution continues with Apple with Phones, iPads, Watch, Google with Pixel series, Samsung Electronics it Galaxy S, Fold and A flagships and others democratising the tech and taking it mainstream. Almost hundreds of MNOs/MVNOs across tens of countries now support eSIM domestically for multi-SIM as well as to attract travellers. However, it’s important to understand the pulse of consumers looking to use or already use eSIM for multiple use-cases especially travel, the most popular usecase. As a part of our series of primary surveys, Counterpoint Research team conducted survey among 3,535 respondents in key eSIM devices penetrated markets US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Poland and Japan in their native languages towards the growing trends around eSIM and “travel eSIM” Great findings from our research on the eSIM awareness among consumers. Summarising some findings below: ✈️ 87% of the respondents who have used travel eSIMs rate them “very important” or “important”, showcasing the strong value perception among current users. ✈️ The convenience of instant connectivity and the ability to avoid high roaming fees were found to be the top reasons for travel eSIM adoption. ✈️Those using the eSIM for daily connectivity are more likely to use travel eSIM, as 61% of the respondents who have used the eSIM, have also used it for travel. ✈️ However, despite travel being one of the biggest use cases of the eSIM, adoption remains limited – only 24% of all eSIM-aware consumers chose an eSIM for travel. ✈️ Awareness and perceived complexity remain major barriers to travel eSIMs’ broader adoption, even as early adopters describe eSIM technology as critical. ✈️ The awareness and perceived complexity remain major barriers to travel eSIMs’ broader adoption, even as early adopters describe eSIM technology as critical. Twimbit's inaugural report on Middle East Telcos sheds light on the region's #telecommunications landscape. Annual revenue growth for Middle East telcos moderated to 4.8% in FY-2023, reaching ~USD 69.2 billion, lower than the 5.3% YoY growth in FY-2022. However, 85% of analysed telcos reported revenue growth, with five achieving double-digit increases. The average ARPU level remains stagnant at ~USD 13 due to increased competition. Telcos are strategically targeting the Enterprise (B2B) segment with innovative offerings. They're also focusing on new technologies like AR/VR and IoT, along with #AI integration to boost profitability. While 5G deployment is nearly complete, cybersecurity remains a priority.
