What do you need to know about leave in the UAE, calendar days versus working days: 1. Employment Agreement: Ensure your employment agreement specifies your annual leave entitlement as either calendar or working days. 2. UAE Labour Law Compliance: As per UAE Labour Law, annual leave is calculated based on calendar days, although in common practice companies convert this to working days. Make sure to familiarise yourself with both the Labour Law and your agreement to understand your entitlement. 3. Monthly Leave Accrual: Whether your company calculates leave based on 30 calendar days or 22 working days, both options represent the same time frame. 4. Public Holidays: As per UAE Labour Law, employees are entitled to paid leave on public holidays. However, for calendar days, public holidays are considered part of the annual leave if they fall within the dates of the leave.
