Arabia and Kuwait to Advance Railway Linkage Project- Kuwait's Minister of Public Works and Minister of State for Municipal Affairs are scheduled to visit the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia next week to discuss the next phase of the railway linkage project. This visit follows the recent approval of the project's financial, economic, technical, and social feasibility study. The railway route will start from Al Shaddadiya in Kuwait and stretch to Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia. The project is expected to be completed by 2028. The project comprises three phases. Officials have confirmed that the first phase, studying the project and analysing the route, is complete. The second is the design phase, which has been given a one-year time frame. The third is the project's execution, which will take three years. Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, known for their close diplomatic relations, entered an agreement in June 2023 to conduct a comprehensive feasibility study encompassing the joint rail link's financial, economic, and technical aspects. While both cities are well-connected by air and road, adding a high-speed train service will significantly enhance transportation options, fostering opportunities to bolster tourism and strengthen economic ties between the two nations. The railway is expected to carry 3,300 passengers daily on six round trips, covering about 500 kilometres at high speed in one hour and 40 minutes. Ticket prices for train trips between the two countries will be affordable, as they compete with plane and car travel in terms of speed and cost. The estimated cost of this ambitious rail project connecting Riyadh to Kuwait is US$250 billion.
