My limited impact too is a cause for concern for some. It's a Journey as there are no instant solutions to complex issues.

”I am a NOBODY” in Dubai…this was my inner voice on 8 June at 4 p.m. The sales rep looked at me and said, “Sorry, ma’m we can’t issue you a Dubai number, you will need your husband’s Emirates ID to get a local SIM.” He wasn't being sexist; it’s just how it works here. After 21 years of building my life and career in Singapore, I took a bold leap at the age of 47 and decided to make Dubai my home. This transition has been nothing short of challenging. I am finding myself in a place where I have no control. Everything has to be relearned: where to buy a fridge, daily groceries, which apps to download, and which networking groups to join. Where do I get my hair, nails, massage? Which credit card is the best for air miles? And so on … There was a fair chance for me to fall into a rabbit hole of emotional overwhelm, feeling lost, fearful, guilty, doubtful, and even self-pity. However, guess what? I find myself seamlessly choosing a different path. Here’s how! 1️⃣ Acknowledging the Challenge: I allow myself to feel emotions rather than suppress them. I cried at the airport when saying bye to 25 of our friends and during the 7-hour plane ride. This isn't easy, but I am giving myself permission to feel. I am holding space for myself. 2️⃣ Reframing the Situation: I am reminding myself that I chose this path and how so many people would do anything to be in my position right now. This helped shift my perspective from being a victim to feeling empowered. 3️⃣ Practicing Gratitude: I thanked my stars for the support, love, and abundance in my life that's poured in from family and friends, helping us navigate small and big situations, challenges, and questions. 4️⃣ Embracing Curiosity: At 47, I see myself shifting into a childlike state of curiosity and excitement about restarting life in a new country. Last night, buying a washing machine in a mall that stays open until 11 p.m. felt like a win! The new experiences and places waiting to be embraced are exhilarating. 5️⃣ Leveraging my Past: I recognized that all I built in Singapore is not lost. I can now recreate that and more in a new location, leveraging technology to maintain authentic connections. Why Am I Sharing This? I share my story to show you that no matter what the challenge, there is a way out. I am someone who is able to access her three Cs—calm, Confidence, and Clarity—on demand in challenging situations. I feel empowered, reassured, confident and clear about what to do. When I don’t feel these things, I rely on my tools, tips, and techniques to get back on track. It seems like a big task, but I know I can and will do it. I encourage you to reflect on your challenges. How do you feel about them? Do you feel supported enough? All you need to know about UAE Amnesty Scheme 2024. People with expired visas or who have been canceled in the past years can take advantage of this opportunity to avoid fines and adjust their legal status in the UAE and either leave the country or change their sponsor. Eligibility Criteria Overstayers: Individuals who have overstayed their visas, whether tourist, work, or residency visas, are typically eligible. Illegal Workers: Those who are working illegally or not by their visa conditions may also qualify. Specific Circumstances: Some schemes are tailored to specific groups, such as those who entered the UAE on visit visas but stayed beyond their allowed period. Application Process Registration: Individuals must usually register with the relevant (in each emirate) immigration authority, such as the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship (ICP) or the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA). The duration of the amnesty is 2 months starting 1st September 2024 till 30th October 2024. You do not need to get a service from any 3rd party, just visit this link and check your status following with your Emirates ID, Passport Number of File Number: https://lnkd.in/dVM2mGCH The fine would most probably be 0 and you need to apply for a new visa or get an Out Pass from Immigration. Dubai's Flooded ❓️ Probably you will have seen on all news channels & social media that the UAE witnessed it's wettest day in 75 years, yesterday -Tuesday 16th April Prior to this event, the government had sounded a 3 days warning alert, of the eventuality of storms & heavy downpours. So consequently most businesses, schools & government offices had been closed & asked to work remotely since yesterday till today. What actually happened❓️ According to the WorldBank Climate change knowledge report. In recent years, the UAE averages between 140 – 200 mm of rainfall per year, with some mountainous areas experiencing up to 350 mm/year That is about 11.7 - 16.7 mm of rainfall per month However in the nights of Monday to Tuesday the weather department recorded the highest rainfall in the Khatm Al Shakla area in Al Ain, [Under the emirate of Abu Dhabi] reaching 254 mm in less than 24 hrs. That's over 1.5 years much of rainfall happening in less than 24hours Let's put this into perspective ⤵️ In 2023, on average monthly rainfall in London was over 72.7 mm of rainfall in 30 days So yesterday alone, I'm less than 24 hours the UAE witnessed over 3.5 times as much rain than London would experience in 30 days. That is surpassing any recorded precipitation since data collection began in 1949. Bearing in mind that rain is unusual in the UAE, an arid, Arabian Peninsula nation, but occurs periodically during the cooler winter months. So naturally many roads & other areas lack drainage given the lack of regular rainfall, causing flooding. - Lightning flashed Tuesday across the sky, occasionally touching the tip of the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building. - The city's driverless Metro saw disruptions and flooded stations as well. - Schools across the Emirates, largely shut ahead of the storm and government employees were largely working remotely if able. However, in prompt response: 📌 The police & emergency personnel drove slowly through the flooded streets of Dubai. 📌 Authorities sent tanker trucks out into the streets & highways to pump away the water.
