During our collaboration with the Prime Minister's Office - UAE and Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority we launched an innovative digital initiative to consolidate all government apps for the seven emirates into a single platform. Challenges: 1- The project posed significant challenges, requiring extensive collaboration and workshops involving over 40 authorities to ensure the platform was accessible and beneficial for all users. 2- The app got rejected by apple store 3 times because it looks like the Apple Store itself. We had to bring an official signed stamp by the government stating that the app is belong to the UAE gov. The Solution: The UAE Government App Store offers government officials a unified platform to list their apps, while allowing citizens to access government services anytime, anywhere. User Experience: By providing a faster, modern, safe, and reliable way to access UAE government services, the apps aim to enhance user experience and increase customer satisfaction. Shaping Saudi Arabia’s Future Through AI and Big Data: Insights from Yaser Al-Onaizan CEO of the NCAI National Center for Artificial Intelligence As we advance Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, artificial intelligence (AI) and big data are becoming indispensable pillars of our nation’s digital transformation strategy. In my recent interview with Yaser Al-Onaizan, CEO of the National Center for AI, we discussed how these technologies are redefining sectors like health care, education, and commerce—all of which are core to the Kingdom’s strategic objectives. According to Al-Onaizan, AI’s power to enhance service delivery in health care and education is already proving invaluable. Early detection of diseases such as cancer and diabetes, supported by AI-driven diagnostics, is helping drive down costs while improving patient outcomes. In education, personalized learning programs are broadening access to digital resources, supporting Vision 2030’s commitment to elevating quality of life and public service delivery. The Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority (SDAIA | سدايا led by President Dr. Abdullah bin Sharraf Al-Ghamdi, plays a crucial role in the Kingdom’s AI journey. Together with the National Center for AI, they are building a robust infrastructure that allows local businesses to tap into AI’s potential without prohibitive costs, focusing on innovation at the application level. Al-Onaizan likened this infrastructure to building highways: “There is no need for every company to build the road; instead, they should focus on using this infrastructure to drive their own growth.” Another focal point of our discussion was ethical AI. Al-Onaizan emphasized the importance of a balanced regulatory approach, highlighting the need for frameworks that ensure transparency, fairness, and accountability without stifling innovation. Saudi Arabia’s approach, as guided by SDAIA, is to create adaptive regulations that not only protect privacy but also foster trust in AI systems as they become a part of everyday life. Finally, developing local AI talent is essential to drive innovation and competitiveness. Al-Onaizan underscored the importance of integrating practical experiences into academic programs and fostering partnerships with global leaders to build a resilient, skilled workforce in AI. Some of the key points discussed in this article are: 1) New AI centers in Abu Dhabi: Microsoft and G42, with the support of the #UAE’s Artificial Intelligence and Advanced Technology Council (#AIATC), are setting up two new centers in Abu Dhabi. These centers aim to promote responsible AI practices and address societal challenges. 2) Responsible AI center: This center is co-founded and co-funded by Microsoft and G42. The Public Investment Fund (PIF) has announced the establishment of the Neo Space Group (NSG), a wholly owned PIF company that will become a national champion in the satellite and space sector. NSG will enhance the space and satellite sector by developing local capabilities and boosting its strategic position within the growing global space economy. The group aims to develop and enhance commercial space operations in Saudi Arabia, providing innovative satellite and space solutions locally and globally. It will invest in local and international assets and capabilities, as well as promising venture capital opportunities, to catalyze the advancement and localization of sector-specific expertise. Oman’s new AI policy can benefit the GCC region, positioning it as a global AI hub. The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology (MTCIT) in Oman has recently launched a public consultation for the National Artificial Intelligence Policy. The country is looking to develop a comprehensive framework for AI adoption, while ensuring ethical use and protecting individual rights. I believe once the policy is formed and implemented, it can establish solid foundations and principles for the development of AI systems and their fair use.
