Increased CXO Movement from IT Services to GCCs: A Promising Trend I had the pleasure of sharing a trend we have recently discerned at Xpheno Executive Search with Sindhu Hariharan of businessline: the growing movement of senior IT services leaders to GCCs. This shift presents opportunities for both talent and organisations, as one can infer. The data confirms what many of us suspected: GCCs are actively seeking experienced CXOs from IT services firms. This talent pool brings proven leadership, deep domain expertise, and the ability to hit the ground running – precisely what GCCs need to achieve their strategic goals. For CXOs, GCCs offer a compelling value proposition. The chance to build something new from the ground up, combined with the global exposure and potential for significant pay hikes (approx. 14-26% above IT services benchmarks), makes GCCs an attractive career choice, unleashing a fresh and relatively longer pathway for growth (contrasting from the relatively matured universe of IT services). This trend is not a sign of weakness in the IT services sector, but another natural evolution of the talent market. As GCCs mature and take on more strategic mandates, they require leadership with a different skill set than what was traditionally needed. IT services veterans, honed by years of managing complex projects and client relationships, fit the bill. I was talking to another CEO of SAP Consulting company and we were discussing about the merits of “Build our Own Product Vs Buying from the market” I was least aware that even SAP was having similar discussion inside. This became evident from Sapphire, Orlando 2024 where SAP’s focus remained towards “Integrating core SAP with platforms through BTP” Microsoft, Google, Amazon, Meta are few examples of their “AI Ecosystem” SAP included everything in their Ecosystem so that they don’t end up re-investing the Wheel. And the focus remained on using the best services of every platform and integrating with customer’s data within SAP to provide value.
