Merry Christmas, Morrissey is in the news again.

On December 23, the former Smiths front man announced on his website, Morrissey Central, that he’d parted ways with his management and record label.

In a post titled “Roll on 2023,” he wrote, “Morrissey has voluntarily parted company with Maverick/Quest management. Morrissey has also voluntarily withdrawn from any association with Capitol Records [Los Angeles].”

Then, on December 24, Morrissey announced in a post titled “Miley Is A Punk Rocker” that “Miley Cyrus now wants to be taken off the song I Am Veronica for which she volunteered backing vocals almost two years ago.” The post was accompanied by a photo of Cyrus and Morrissey looking chummy during a recording session.

At the time of this article, Cyrus had no public comment.

I Am Veronica was set to be part of Morrissey’s album Bonfire of Teenagers. Now, the future of that already-finished album — scheduled to be released by Capitol Records in February 2023 — is uncertain.

Bonfire of Teenagers, which was conceived as a follow-up to 2020’s I Am Not A Dog on A Chain, boasted several other guest artists including Flea and Iggy Pop.

On Christmas day, Morrissey opted for a less-depressing but even-more-baffling post. Along with the lyrics “And all the things that I have seen qualify me for a part in your dreams,” Morrissey reshared a three-year-old music video for his cover of Melanie’s Some Say I Got Devil.

Known for his staunch veganism and sometimes-racist and xenophobic comments, Morrissey’s behavior has gotten increasingly bizarre in recent years. In November, he walked out of a performance at Los Angeles’ Greek Theater after only 30 minutes for reasons still unknown.
