iPhone 16 Pro Max vs Samsung Galaxy S24 camera comparison – judge for yourself

iPhone 16 Pro Max vs Samsung Galaxy S24 camera comparison | iPhone 16 Pro shown

An iPhone 16 Pro Max vs Samsung Galaxy S24 camera comparison concludes that it’s hard to pick an overall winner given the role played by personal preferences, but the range of sample shots provides a really good chance to judge for yourself.

The piece starts out by noting that Samsung wins the megapixel war, though we’ve frequently cautioned that squeezing ever more pixels into a tiny sensor can actually result in worse images …

Larger displays on iPhone 16 Pro and Apple Watch Series 10: Worth it?

iPhone 16 Pro and Apple Watch Series 10 larger displays

Last month Apple introduced the latest iPhone 16 Pro and Apple Watch Series 10 models together, and they had one key upgrade in common: larger displays. I’ve been using the new, larger iPhone 16 Pro and 46mm Apple Watch Series 10 for nearly three weeks now. Here’s what my experience with the screen size changes has been.

Two (or three?) iPhone 16 models make best smartphone battery life rankings

Two iPhone 16 models make best smartphone battery life rankings | Base iPhone 16 shown

Two of the four iPhone 16 models have made it into the best smartphone battery life rankings compiled by Tom’s Guide. The status of a third model is unclear.

Earning a place on the list requires a smartphone to last for more than 14 hours of wireless web browsing on 5G at a brightness of 150 nits, and a total of 15 smartphones qualify …

My favorite Magsafe accessory got even better

My favorite types of accessories are ones that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also provide multiple solutions in one form factor. Earlier this year, Moft launched their Magsafe Tripod Stand, which was a great product and one that I used much more frequently than I had originally anticipated. It gave you a very useful iPhone tripod that is the size of a Magsafe wallet. But that was the one issue I had with it. I love having a Magsafe wallet always attached to my Phone and I had to pick between the tripod or the wallet. But it looks like Moft has cooked up the perfect solution.

iPhone Diary: Differences in iPhone 16 macro photos may be more software than hardware

iPhone 16 macro shots compared to last year's phone | Macro shot of iPhone 16 lenses

Since the weather isn’t cooperative enough to do any outdoor shooting, I decided to start by putting the iPhone 16 Pro Max macro photography capabilities to the test, comparing to its predecessor.

In principle, macro shots taken with this year’s phone should be much more detailed, given the new 48MP sensor. However, the differences between the two aren’t vast, and I suspect have more to do with processing than sensor resolution …

iPhone Diary: First impressions of the iPhone 16 Pro Max are all about Camera Control

iPhone repair costs

It’s a common claim that each year’s new iPhones are much the same as the previous models, and there’s of course some degree of truth to this.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman went as far as arguing in his latest newsletter that Apple’s pace of development with iPhones is such that we only see something truly new every five years …

Familiarize yourself with the Camera Control button before your iPhone 16 arrives

Familiarize yourself with the Camera Control button | Man with his finger on the new button

I’m one of many eagerly awaiting delivery of my iPhone 16 tomorrow (Pro Max, in my case), and the Camera Control button is the first thing I’m going to try.

If you’re in the same position, then an Apple support document provides an opportunity to familiarize yourself with it before your device arrives …

iPhone Diary: iPhone 16 Pro Max ordered, with Apple managing to surprise me

Camera Control iPhone 16

I said before the keynote that I expected to be ordering an iPhone 16 Pro Max, and that was going to be largely down to the functionality of the Camera Control button. This turned out to be an even stronger draw than I’d expected.

Despite the button itself inevitably leaking beforehand, Apple did manage to keep a lot of its functionality secret …

Here are all the new camera features on the iPhone 16 models

iPhone 16 camera features | Camera Control button (top) and UI (bottom)

While Apple headlined its keynote with the new Apple Intelligence features coming later to the new iPhone 16 line-up, there was also big news on the camera front.

This included good news for those who tend to buy the standard or Plus models over the Pro and Pro Max, as a lot of the photographic goodies come to all four models …

iPhone Diary: Apple likely to sell me an iPhone 16 Pro Max for two reasons

iPhone Diary iPhone 16 Pro Max expectations | iPhone with Apple rainbow logo and stripes

I didn’t always upgrade my iPhone every year. That process started with the iPhone X, but it has continued since then, and it’s generally been the camera features which have parted me from my money.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max doesn’t seem like it will quite have a single killer feature for me, but it does appear that it would only take two rumored new features for Apple to ring up a sale …

Rumor: iPhone 16 Pro to feature 33% smaller display bezels

The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are expected to have larger screens than their predecessors. One way Apple will accomplish this feat without as big of an increase to the overall form factor is with smaller bezels. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman now reports that we can specifically expect iPhone 16 Pro bezels to be around 33% smaller (or one-third smaller) than the iPhone 15 Pro.
