The normative version of the SVG specification is in English. If English is not your first language, volunteers are working to provide translations in other languages now the specification is a W3C Recommendation. If you are in a position to help with this, please write to www-svg@w3.org. We expect you to give us permission to republish the translated version and to allow readers to make copies without restrictions.
Jean-Jacques Solari has made available a French translation of SVG 1.0 and also the errata.
There is a Japanese translation of SVG 1.0, including the eratta, linked from the site SVG仕様書勧告の日本語化計画!
Another Japanese translation, also available with interleaved Japanese and English, by らすかる (S.Yamaguti), わった煮 (Kenji Watatani), 佐久間 (M.Sakuma), 吟雅 (A.Enomoto).
In addition, there is a Japanese annotated SVG DTD.
Stefan Schumacher (sts@schumacher-netz.de) has announced that he is working on a German translation.
Piotr "Merlin" Krajewski (nacz.htmlzone@pnet.pl) has announced intention to work on a Polish translation.
Yushi Komachi (komachi@y-adagio.com), responding to a call for translations by the Japanese Ministry of Economical Trade and Industry has started translating a number of W3C specifications; the list includes SVG.
