 Starting in fall 2025 

Master in Urban Systems

The program is designed to equip students with backgrounds in engineering and architecture with the foundations needed to tackle the complex challenges of sustainability in urban areas and their surrounding territories.

The core program is strengthened with a choice of three specializations:

Mobility and transportation in a changing climate

Sustainable transitions in urban systems

Health and well-being in the urban environment

An interpretative framework for the urban banks of the Rhône

Research

How can the banks of the Rhône be developed in a sustainable and resilient way? That’s the question posed by Sara Formery, architect and postdoctoral researcher at EPFL’s Laboratory of Architecture and Sustainable Technologies (LAST), in this column published in four daily newspapers in French-speaking Switzerland.

“Timber can be a good alternative if it's used wisely”

Education

For his master’s degree in civil engineering, Matthieu Fehlmann worked on a project in Australia where he studied methods for laterally stabilizing an eight-story timber building without using concrete. This experience was both personally and academically enriching, and it gave him exposure to a whole different set of construction standards.
